Not financial advice
Overpay or Invest provides general information and a modelling tool. It is not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and nothing on this site is a personal recommendation. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Your circumstances are unique, so please consider taking independent, regulated advice before making a large decision such as a lump-sum overpayment.
Results are estimates
- The calculator is an annual approximation of a monthly repayment system, so results are directional, not exact.
- It assumes steady salary growth, no career breaks, and that the assumptions you enter (such as investment returns) hold true. Real life won’t follow them exactly.
- The rules are based on 2026–27 thresholds and interest rates. Government policy on student loans can change, including the terms of existing loans.
- It models one loan at a time.
Investing carries risk
Investments can fall as well as rise, and you can get back less than you put in. An assumed return is not a promise or a forecast. Overpaying a student loan cannot be undone: money paid in cannot be taken back.
